10/5/25 Dear Community, I am posting the following in an effort to locate the owner of a dog (with no collar or chip) who sadly fell victim to their injury this evening. Please see below for a description of the dog, and details regarding the situation I witnessed. I was driving southbound on Tuttle from north Sarasota, and witnessed a dog struck by a van around 9pm. It was unclear whether the driver saw the dog, or was acting in negligence. The vehicle resembled a "sprinter" style van, and appeared to belong to a company. I was not able to make out what the company was, but believe the text contained the colors light green and blue. The van did not stop, but I immediately did, having seen what happened. I carefully picked up the dog, and suspected the injuries were all internal, as there was no visible blood. I pressed my hand on the chest of the dog while driving to the nearest emergency vet to stimulate circulation, as the dog was still responding. Prior to being struck, the dog appeared calm, but "lost", standing still by the curb in its surroundings - not running back into the neighborhood or towards a home, for instance. The approximate location was Tuttle, south of Ringling, but north of Tuttle Circle. I will need to confirm during the daytime, but believe the nearest crossroad may have been "Hibiscus" or "Tuttle Way". I would like the owner to know that the dog was taken to "BluePearl" on South Tamiami Trail, and the DVM attending put forth all efforts. I shared with the intake coordinator that despite the dog not being mine, to please proceed as if it were, regardless of the cost or gravity of injury. They did, but the dog was in cardiac arrest when I arrived. This was confirmed by the DVM, in addition to ribcage injuries from the blunt force trauma. I have a receipt to verify the measures taken (i. E. CPR, endotracheal intubation, epinephrine, etc.), and thought it would provide closure to the owner to know that their dog was taken to an emergency vet. The DVM came out at least twice, visibly sweating, from his resuscitative attempts. If you believe this dog may be yours, please reply to this post so we may connect. I am so terribly sorry for the outcome. I hope there is comfort in knowing that your beautiful dog was in loving hands, and with someone who cared ️. I can assure you the emergency staff tried everything possible, as the services were requested and paid for as if the dog were my own. In the case of the owner seeing this post, your dog will be held at the emergency vet for a minimum of one week before arrangements are made. Notes were left for other staff members / shifts to hold on contacting animal services, as I expressed a desire to visit the neighborhood in the morning. Provided by BluePearl: Breed - Terrier, Jack Russell Mix Weight - approximately 18lbs Age - young adult, estimated to be 3-5 years old Gender - female Respectfully and with condolences, Monica
