I was heading for a late night run around 10pm about an hour after the rain had started (forecasted to begin pouring soon) and this cat came running towards us at the foot of the stairs - wet and upset, he demanded to be let inside, and after 15 minutes of watching him approach other doors and then returning to us we decided to oblige his request. He let me pick him up from the front stoop without any fuss and bring him up three flights of stairs, and upon coming inside he made himself right at home. He’s very forward and friendly - with a LOT to say - and after drying off and feeding him some cat food from the bodega he started to get antsy, howling on-and-off. It felt wrong not give him a roof over his head for the rainy cold night, but considering he’s still on-and-off howling this morning, it does feel like he wants to leave. He is well-fed and in seemingly good condition, and based on his receptivity to pets (with some clearly-communicated boundaries) and the fact that he slept in our bed last night and follows me around the apartment, I think he belongs to somebody. I’ve looked around Nextdoor for missing cats and posted there and a couple other places, but we can’t hold on to him, as I have a friend with a dog visiting tomorrow.
